Magnetic Resonance (MR)

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique, also called magnetic resonance tomography (MRT), is used to detect and identify various diseases and conditions that are hidden or difficult to see by x-ray or CT scans. Such examples are tumors, eye diseases, diseases of the brain's blood vessels and in various organs, soft tissues and bones.

The method is not based on x-rays or other ionizing radiation. MRI instead uses magnetic fields and radio waves. These do not have sufficient strength to cause any known health effects in humans, either in the short or long term. Some people may experience dizziness and slight nausea as they move in the camera's magnetic field. In exceptional cases, the magnetic fields also cause slight and temporary muscle stimulation of the patient.
